How do I become a HandsOn Suncoast volunteer?
Becoming a HandsOn Suncoast volunteer is easy! Simply register yourself by creating a profile. You will then need to complete an sign up for one of the 45 minute orientations that we have located in both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, or you can complete the orientation online. After the orientation is complete, it will take approximately 1-2 days to activate your account if completed online or up to 5 days if you attend in person.
I do not have a HandsOn Suncoast account. How do I create one?
Click on Sign Up / Registration from the Volunteer menu option above and complete the short registration form.
How do I manage my account?
After logging in, you can use the “My Account” tab to manage your personal information, view and manage the volunteer opportunities you’ve signed up for, create and manage volunteer teams, and more.
I thought I already had a HandsOn Suncoast account, but am unable to login to the system. Now what?
If you input your log-in (email address) and click “Forgot Password” and nothing happens, please contact Rebecca Cain at email@example.com. We’ll look you up so that you don’t create a duplicate account.
I forgot my username. How do I retrieve that information?
Your username is the email address you used when you created your account. If your email address does not work at login or you have changed email addresses, please contact Rebecca Cain at firstname.lastname@example.org and a representative should be in contact with you within two to three business days. Please provide us with your name, email address and your preferred phone number.
I forgot my password. How do I retrieve that information?
Click the “LOGIN” button on the top right of the website. Enter your username and click “Forgot Password”. An email with a temporary password will be sent to you. Return to our website, click the “LOGIN” button, and enter your username and your temporary password. The system will prompt you to change your password. PLEASE NOTE: Passwords must be at least eight characters. If you do not receive an email with a temporary password, please contact Rebecca Cain at email@example.com.
Do I need to have an email address to volunteer with HandsOn Suncoast?
Yes. Our website uses your email address to identify you and send you important information about any volunteer opportunities you sign up for. If you do not have an email account, you can get one free of charge from YAHOO or Google. Free Internet access is also available from most public libraries.
Why does the system require me to have a Community Nickname as part of the account creation process?
HandsOn Network, HandsOn Suncoast’s parent organization, created HandsOn Connect (the platform that is running this site). There are future plans to introduce community forums into HandsOn Suncoast where you will have the option to interact with other HandsOn Suncoast volunteers. The Community Nickname is how you will be known in these forums, but it is not used anywhere else.
I am a youth volunteer. How do I get started and how old do I have to be to register on this site?
You must be 13 years old to register as a volunteer on our website. Although children 12 or younger cannot create an account on this site, several of HandsOn Suncoast’s volunteer opportunities are open to youth in that age group. Look for projects with a FF which stands for Family Friendly where you will be able to bring your younger children (5 – 12). If a project has an age requirement of 16+ that means you have to be 16 to be able to sign up. Anyone under 18 attending a project on their own must bring a signed copy of the minor youth waiver. This is located on the right-hand side of the front page.
What if I have questions about a volunteer opportunity and want them answered before I sign up?
At the bottom of every volunteer opportunity page, there is a link to email the Opportunity Leader. By clicking on this link, you can email your questions directly to the Opportunity Leader. If you do not hear back within two to three days, please email Rebecca Cain at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I would like to volunteer with a group of friends/family/co-workers. How do I create and manage a volunteer team?
Please go under “My Account” – located in the blue bar – and you will find “My Teams” and “Create a New Team”. There will be information about how to create and manage a team.
I have been waitlisted for a project. Now what?
When (and if) a spot opens up, you will be notified via email. Open spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you are still available and interested in the volunteer opportunity, make sure you login, return to the sign-in sheet page and claim one of the open spaces. PLEASE DO NOT JUST SHOW UP AT THE PROJECT.
How do I remove myself from a project so that others can take my place?
If you need to remove yourself from a project, please log in, go to the “My Account” tab, find the project under the “Upcoming Opportunities” section, and click “Remove Me.” If you are doing this within 12 hours of the project, please email the Opportunity Leader to let them know.
Can I keep track of my volunteer service through HandsOn Suncoast?
Yes, once you create a volunteer account, your record of volunteer service is tracked and can be accessed at any time. Attendance at a HandsOn Suncoast-managed opportunity is logged by the Volunteer Leader, allowing for an accurate volunteer record to be maintained for every registered volunteer. For opportunities managed by our Nonprofit Partners (Express Interest, or To-Be- Scheduled opportunities), our processes do not currently track these service hours.
To access your volunteer history:
- Log in to your volunteer account.
- Click on My Account. Toward the bottom of the page you will see the section “Volunteer History with HandsOn Suncoast.”
- You can download and print out your volunteer record anytime by clicking on Download Full History (PDF) at the bottom of the page.
Volunteers are not able to alter their volunteer history or add non-HandsOn Suncoast volunteer opportunities through the site. If you see a mistake in your volunteer record, email Rebecca Cain at email@example.com.
My hours are not accurate. Why aren’t my hours showing up?
Please give the Volunteer Leader up to one week to verify attendance. However, if it takes longer for your hours to show up on your Account Overview page, go to your Volunteer History, view the opportunity listing for the project you served at and click the “Request Hours” link.
Nonprofit Partner FAQs:
How do I partner with HandsOn Suncoast?
Click on “Sign Up / Registration” from the “Nonprofit” tab above and fill out the registration form. The registration process will allow you to establish your own profile and create your password, which you will use to Login when your return to the site. By creating your own profile, you can update it as many times as needed. When you have submitted successfully, an email will be sent to HandsOn Suncoast staff that a new agency has applied. Once your agency has been approved, you will be emailed a manual to help you post your projects online.
I just submitted my volunteer opportunity. Why isn’t it visible on the website yet?
HandsOn Suncoast staff members review all volunteer opportunities before approving them to appear on our website. The approval process generally takes less than 48 hours. You will receive an e-mail notification once the project has been approved and posted. If your project does not appear on the website within three business days, please contact Rebecca Cain at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How will volunteers express interest in my opportunity?
The HandsOn Suncoast website functions as a search engine for volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can search for opportunities based on location, interest and skills. When a volunteer expresses interest in a project, both the project contact and the volunteer will receive each other’s contact information. We highly recommend that the Nonprofit Partner organization’s staff contact the volunteer within 3 – 5 business days.
I have received a notice that my organization’s project(s) are expiring. What should I do?
The e-mail will include a prompt to update your opportunity. However, you will also receive this notice about projects when your organization’s partnership is expiring.
