Financial Coaching - Member Interest

Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

VIRTUAL COACHING: The first session is best when your Coach can meet with you using a video messaging platform such as Zoom. Seeing your Coach's face will help you establish a connection. Your Coach will also be able to provide key resources immediately by sharing their screen, website links, etc.
NOTE: In-person sessions at public locations may occur if both you and your coach agree to this and neither are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Matches are encouraged to practice recommended safety precautions at this time to due to COVID-19 risks.”

Strongly consider the video option for your first session. You will receive support before your session to help you with Zoom or another video platform.

You may write "none" if Zoom, the default option, works for you.

FINANCIAL FOCUS

Select the 1 or 2 most important topics you want to discuss in financial coaching. Only select a maximum of two (2) topics to let the Coach know your priorities. All other information can be addressed in continued sessions.

Example: significant other; family member/friend; child/dependent; etc. If yes, include name(s), age(s), & relationship to you for other attendee(s). Write "no" if this question does not apply.

YOUR GENERAL SCHEDULE
Please describe your general availability to START a 60-minute coaching session. This will help the program match you with a volunteer who has a similar schedule. You and your coach will decide the specific days/times of all your sessions.

NOTE: Coaching is not offered on Sundays at this time.
If Saturdays and/or Sundays are your only day of availability, contact the Program Manager after you submit this form.

I, the Member, agree to the following:

  • That I am committed to identifying and working toward my financial goals to the best of my ability.
  • To respect the Coach's time and keep all scheduled appointments, or let the Coach know if I am unable to make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
  • To honestly communicate all financial information needed to work on my financial goals.
  • To be open to new ideas and willing to change my financial behaviors.
  • To only commit to steps that I can do and be accountable for following through to the best of my ability.
  • That although the Coach is there to support me, I am ultimately responsible for taking steps to improve my financial wellness.
  • That the coach will not act as my legal or financial adviser, but can only guide me with various resources, options, coaching and encouragement. This means I will not hold the Coach or United Way Suncoast responsible for any consequences of the decisions I make regarding my finances.

United Way Suncoast is committed to providing you with the best support. Please make note of the following rights you have as a Coaching Member:

  • Background Checked Service - Coaching is a free service. Your Financial Resource Guide/Coach is a volunteer who passes a background check and receives training from United Way.
  • Impartial Support - Volunteers are trained to provide impartial support so that you make the final decision about what is best for you.
  • Sales Are Prohibited - Volunteers will not attempt to sell you products or services. If for any reason you feel like your coach is trying to sell you something, you must contact United Way staff immediately.
  • Protect Your Information - Your coach will need to know personal information to best support you. However, you only need to share what you are comfortable sharing. Additionally, your coach does not need to know your social security number, bank account number, etc.
  • Request A New Coach - Do not feel pressured to work with a coach who you do not feel comfortable with. If for any reason, you do not get along with the first match you may request a new match. While it may take some time to fulfill the request, United Way is confident we can find another match for you; plenty of volunteers want to support financial coaching.
  • Determine Your Own Coaching Journey - At all times, you are the expert on your own life. You determine what goals are priority and where you want to be. Your coach is there to help you figure out how to get there.
  • Stop When You Are Ready - For best results, coaching should last 6 to 12 months. It is your decision when you want to stop receiving coaching support (unless you are participating in a program that requires you to attend a particular number of sessions).

Please name the specific location, organization, or person who told you about financial coaching if you choose "Other".
