Literacy Kit Assembly - Week of Caring 2021 [HIL]

United Way Suncoast is excited to host this fun volunteer opportunity in partnership with Florida Blue!

United Way is committed to leading a comprehensive approach to improving early learning in our region. The reality is, 88 percent of first graders who are reading below grade level will continue to read below grade level in fourth grade. Fourth graders who struggle to read are four times more likely to drop out of school as compared to proficient readers.

United Way Suncoast directly manages programs to assist caregivers, providers, and community supports to help children in the Suncoast region succeed.

Volunteers will spend the morning assembling literacy kits that will be distributed to children at the Sulphur Springs K-8 Community School. The kits include books and activities provide encouragement for children to enjoy reading and are made possibly through our partnership with Florida Blue.

Volunteer projects for Week of Caring will be following CDC guidelines regarding face masks and social distancing.

T-shirts will be provided on-site by United Way Suncoast. Volunteers will be asked for their t-shirt size when registering below.
