Dive Into Reading- Summer Reading Mentor [DES]
Join DeSoto County Schools this June for a meaningful opportunity to help students build confidence and a love for reading. This program is designed to strengthen literacy skills by providing students with one-on-one reading support in a fun and relaxed environment.
Volunteers will be paired with 1–2 third-grade students and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00–9:00 AM, beginning June 2. Each session focuses on reading a provided, grade-level appropriate book together, helping students improve comprehension, expand vocabulary, and develop a lifelong appreciation for books. As a special benefit, students will take these books home to build their own personal libraries.
By participating, you’ll play an important role in encouraging young learners and helping them succeed academically.
Volunteer Responsibilities May Include:
- Reading one-on-one with assigned students
- Supporting comprehension and vocabulary development
- Encouraging engagement and a positive reading experience
- Helping foster a love for reading in a supportive environment
