Friends in the Classroom: 9/11 Week of Service 2026 [SAR]

The September 11 Week of Service and Remembrance is an opportunity to honor the sacrifices made on that day by remembering the heroes, armed forces, first responders, and countless others whose acts of courage and service helped defend our nation's freedom. Through service, we pay tribute to those we lost and carry forward the spirit of unity, compassion, and community that emerged in the aftermath of September 11.
United Way Suncoast is proud to offer this volunteer opportunity with Children First as part of our annual 9/11 Week of Service & Remembrance. Friends in the Classroom are caring volunteers who help teachers create engaging, organized, and nurturing learning environments where children can thrive. By lending a helping hand in the classroom, volunteers support early childhood education and help ensure that teachers can focus on what matters most: fostering learning, growth, and development for every child.

Volunteer Tasks

  • Prepare and organize classroom materials and learning resources.
  • Assist with classroom organization and light beautification projects.
  • Read with children and support literacy-based activities.
  • Assist teachers with age-appropriate educational activities. Help create a welcoming, engaging environment for young learners.
Youth 14 and older can volunteer with a guardian.
Thank you for volunteering and helping us honor the legacy of service associated with September 11.
