GREETER/SCREENER

Greeters/Screeners involves warmly welcoming all site visitors to create a pleasant atmosphere. Additionally, you will screen taxpayers to assess the assistance they require and verify if they possess the necessary documents to complete their tax returns. Greeters/Screeners are required to successfully pass two (2) exams: the Standards of Conduct and the Intake/Quality Review exam. Greeters/Screeners must attend the Greeters/Screeners webinar.

STEP ONE: CREATE A UNITED WAY SUNCOAST VOLUNTEER ACCOUNT

All Greeters/Screeners must have a United Way Suncoast (UWS) account to participate in VITA.

STEP TWO: REGISTER TO VOLUNTEER FOR VITA 2026 TAX SEASON

Every volunteer—new or returning—must fill out the registration form each year to stay active in the VITA program. If you do not complete the form, you won't receive important updates or information about volunteering with VITA.

STEP THREE: GET CERTIFIED

Greeter/Screeners must complete these two exams:

Volunteer Standards of Conduct
Intake/Interview and Quality Review

New Greeters/Screeners can register and attend the virtual orientation (step four) to become certified and those who previously volunteered can self-certify by clicking the "Self-Certification" button below.

STEP FOUR: REGISTER FOR THE GREETER/SCREENER ORIENTATION

STEP FIVE: VOLUNTEER

Once certified, proceed to volunteer by registering at any of our VITA locations.

Whether you're new to VITA or in need of additional support, gather your questions and join one of our Connect, Engage, Ask, Discover sessions. These virtual sessions, led by an IRS professional, provide an open forum for volunteers to ask any questions or express concerns related to VITA.
